Stop stretching yourself til you snap. You’re not a rubber band.
I’m just a girl, staring at my emails, wishing the 150 unread messages that are currently sitting in my inbox would kindly read (and bin) themselves.
Do you feel it? The relentless pressure of end of year.
There are 1000 things that need doing before you can ‘officially clock off’.
Your head feels like it’s going to burst with all that’s crammed into it.
Your brain feels like a rubber band that’s being stretched beyond its capacity, so much so that you could snap any second now.
Your healthy habits have left the building, you’re taking on everyone else’s workload, you’re snapping at your kids, you’re struggling to communicate with anyone because you’re pouring from an empty cup and you’re so. damn. tired.
But you’re nearly there, you tell yourself.
I’ll have a break over Christmas and New Year, you repeat over and over.
There is light at the end of the tunnel, so you say.
But the thing is, there is ALWAYS something else.
I’m writing this for myself as much as I’m writing it for you.
I am guilty of this.
HELL, I am so guilty of this.
I overfill my plate so much that I spill shit all over the floor.
I say to myself, I’ve done it again. I’ve let work take over my life.
And I know you probably feel the same.
And this is where the second main character enters the story: the mental load.
The mental load is not only work, but life. You know that thing we only get one of?
Well the mental load that comes along with living life adds to the stretch.
Family life. Friends. Bills. End of year concerts. Family gatherings. Christmas parties. Dress up days. Secret Santa. Fucking ELF ON THE SHELF.
How.Much.More.Can.We.Cram.In?
We’re exhausted.
At capacity.
I don’t want this feeling for you.
For us.
So let’s be fucking indulgent for a second.
Forget your responsibilities, just for a minute.
What would you do?
Read a book?
Get a massage?
Whatever it is, make it about YOU. And start now.
You’re not on this earth simply to serve others.
You’re here to live this life and enjoy it too.
And remember this:
Everyone else’s urgency is NOT your emergency.
