For My People Pleasing Babes… Here’s How To Switch Off This Holiday Season

I know what you’re thinking: You’re over it right?

You’ve got one thousand things to do before you can call time of death on 2020. You’re flustered, overwhelmed, and dare I say it, feeling a bit like the Grinch, because how can you possibly get into the spirit of the silly season when you’ve got TOO MUCH LEFT TO DO.

But, you’re pushing on and, if I had to take a punt, you’ve probably told yourself that once you finish your mammoth task list, you’ll switch off and ENJOY the holiday break.

And that next year, you’ll get your work/life balance back.

You’ll set some boundaries and things will calm down.

BUT… are you ready for some home truths?

What you’ve told yourself? It’s all bullshit.

How do I know this? Because maybe you’re like I was, when I first started working for myself.

I would go full throttle. I’d work non-stop, and then after I’d complete a task, I’d move straight onto the next one, and the next, never stopping for a break, a pause or to simply recharge.

Because there was ALWAYS something else.

And there will ALWAYS be something else.

The secret is not losing yourself in the torrent of tasks. I truly believe I lost valuable time in my life due to me not taking a break.

Going through the motions isn’t a badge of honour – neither is working yourself to the bone.

There is no great parade or firework display waiting to celebrate when you finally get through you’re never ending to-do list.

In fact, life becomes a blur. Days blend into weeks, weeks into months, and months into years. Before you’ve even picked your head up, you’ve missed out on enjoying your life. The years whizzed by and you were vacant.

And that’s a goddamn tragedy!

And you know what else it is? Harmful.

Being addicted to work can be seriously dangerous. You’ve got to switch off.

But, again, I know this can be hard when you run your own business. You feel like you need to keep an eye on your emails… you know… just in case.

Just in case what?

Just in case someone asks a question they could Google?

You must make the transition from Worker Bee, to Queen Bee.

So how am I going to make the transition from Worker Bee/Agency Owner to Queen Bee/Life Lover these holidays?

I’m doing something that signals ‘the end’… the cue to stop.

And it’s something simple.

I’m getting a massage. Yep, that’s IT.

A massage.

A seductive rub-down (huh, what?) that tells me ‘this is it Kat. Time to stop and switch off’.

So what’s your cue to stop going to be?

Make it one specific thing, and once you do that thing, honour yourself and just stop.

And whatever it is that you choose, perhaps you could implement this into your future work habits.

ESPECIALLY IF YOU’RE A WORKAHOLIC, PEOPLE PLEASER.

Believe me when I say this could change your life for the better, and funnily enough, can even make you more productive in the long run.

This year may have been a giant shit show, but at least you can end it being the STAR.

Merry Christmas Jaguars.
